The Best Days – So Far…

September 5, 2009

I have been living the best days of my life in New York City – so far…

It all started when Alex, Ben, Tomoya, Julia, Olivia and I when to Sam’s place some time ago, when we got to know Jenny, Isabel, Sarah, Matt, Colin and Blair among other very nice people. We talked a lot, we made jokes about people’s nationalities and etc. It was the famous and unforgettable “Accidental Cookie Party”.

The day after that we went to Jenny’s place, Ben, Alex and me. We met Jenny, Sam, Blair, the other Jenny, Colin, Isabel, etc. After eating some candies we decided to go to the Brooklyn Bridge, by walking. It was a log tour, but worthwhile! We crossed the bridge and tried to get a subway, but it would take too long, so Alex, Ben, Sam, Jenny, Blair and I took some cabs to come back home. It was amazing!

Meanwhile, I had some events to attend to at Tisch and at the department of Cinema Studies, where I finally met Eugenie, from France and Lauren, from the Netherlands. They are gonna be taking classes with me! We also have a reception to International Students, where, besides me, Tomoya, Ben and Alex, a lot of other international students got together, such as Fernanda, my friend from Brazil; Eugenie and her friend Arthur, Lauren, Ben’s friends Laura and Nadine (Dutch and German), and a lot of other people.

And after the reception we decided to go to Coney Island! Alex, Ben, Tomoya, Sam, Jenny and I took the subway and went to the beach at night. It was crowded, many people went there to watch the fireworks. We also met Eugenie, Arthur, Laura and Lauren there. After the fireworks we went to Julia’s place (another Julia, friend of Jenny’s). It was amazing, we met Blair, Matt, Isabel, and I got to know other people – Sean, Julia, Andy, Sylvia, etc. We took several pictures and I felt really, really happy. It was very similar to a scene from Felicity. I felt like I was thirteen again, sitting at my couch, watching Felicity in New York, wondering if I would be ir her shoes someday, and here I am! That’s almost unbelievable! And the people around me is so nice, so cool, it makes me even happier!

University Hall

September 2, 2009

And I finally moved to Manhattan! To my NYU housing – the University Hall!

Before moving out form Brooklyn, I went to a Hawaiian party at Fernanda’s, very nice!

These last days have been pretty crazy. I had many events promoted by NYU to attend to, others promoted by Tisch and another one by Cinema Studies Department!

Well, on Sunday I moved to the dorms and I met Benjamin, from Germany, one of my roommates. Alex came a little bit later. At the same day we had a meeting at the Uhall (abbreviation for University Hall), where we met the Brazilian girl, Marina, and other NYU students, like Jake, Laureen and Byron.

On Monday I went to the NYU Card Center with Ben, where he took his NYU Card, and in the afternoon Alex and I went to Madison Square Garden, to attend to the NYU Presidential Welcome, a very nice ceremony. We met Samantha there, an NYU student that also lives at Uhall. At night, Ben, Alex, Sam and I went to a pub in the Village, very cool place, and we talked a lot about economics and TV shows.

Yesterday we finally met the fourth roommate – Tomoya, from Japan. We went out to buy some stuff to the kitchen. I had new events to attend to at Tisch, where I met Nathalie, another Brazilian girl, and Seth, a Cinema student like me.

That’s pretty much what I have been doing, I wish I could tell you more details, but I don’t have time to do so. I still have to eat something and do laundry… =/

Let alone the bank account I haven’t managed to open yet!

Tomorrow: I’m gonna try to open my bank account at Chase, even without being registered or having a document that proves where I live…

Second day in New York

August 25, 2009

Today I met Fernanda at Washington Square Park, in Greenwich Village, Manhattan.

We walked a lot, we talked about the trip, about money, about getting a job, about Capes, about the bank account we have to open. We got lost twice! I was good for me to know NYU, I’ll have to go there tomorrow for a check in.

We ate Subway, as good as the Brazilian version! We also went to the Union Square Park, close to the University Hall, my future housing!

Here at James’, the girls from Czech Republic I met yesterday went to Washington, I talked a lot to the girl that lives here -just forgot her name! I’m having a very good time.

And I finally got to New York!

After a verysad moment at the airport where I said goodbye to my family and my friends, I took a plane to Sao Paulo with Leo and there I took my plane to New York, where I arrived today!

I found James in Manhattan and he explained me how to get to his place, where I am now! It was a very tiring day, but here I am! I took to sobway lines, a bus, a cab e I walked a lot with my bags, so I decided to rest a little bit and tomorrow I’m gonna see the city and find Fernanda at NYU!

Kah, Panga Paula, Thayse, me and Fabio at the airport. Laisa in on the bus, getting there!

The Tickets

August 18, 2009

Now it’s official! I’m gonna take a flight in Florianopolis, 01:45 PM, next Sunday, to São Paulo, where I’m gonna take a second flight, 09:05 PM, to New York. I got the tickets – virtual ones.

Gladly, Leo and I are going together to São Paulo, where we’re gonna wait for different flights, both at night!

Fabrício is leaving on Saturday. Fernanda is there, in NYC, she found a place in Brooklyn, very nice, but a little bit far from Manhattan. Today she invited me to my first party in New York! On August, 29th! =)

Fernanda is also dealing with many things we have to do as soon as we get there, such as opening a bank account, going to a check in at NYU, sending emails to Brasília, etc…

Here, I’m dealing with many things I have to go before traveling! Getting clothes and documents together, sending emails, etc.

As I said previously (or not), I met Fábio and Thayse last weekend, they just came back from Europe, Alex is still there, in France, all those travels made me think it was something distant, but now it’s getting closer!

The closer it gets, the crazier I get!

Felicity – Hey Video

August 15, 2009

One of the best things I have been done these months is watching again the third and fourth seasons of Felicity!

It’s a great TV series, the best when it comes to young adult life style! I keep wondering if I’m gonna be as lucky as the people in the show, that happen to make very nice friends while studying in New York! =)

Here is a very nice video:

Waiting to Go!

August 13, 2009

You might be wondering what I am doing now (or you might not)…

Anyway, I’ll be leaving Brazil in a little bit more then a week, so I’m very nervous already!

News: I know where I’ll be living: University Hall, very close to the main buildings of NYU, looks like a very nice place (and expensive), I’ll be sharing my room with Alexander (Alex), from London, who seems to be a very nice person!

More news: I have a nice place to stay until August, 30th – I’ll be at James’, in Brooklyn – I found him on Hospitality Club. He seems to be very nice too.

More news: I’ll be meeting another student from Tisch, at NYU, who is gonna help me registering in the courses! Malanie, but I haven’t emailed her yet.

Last news: Fernanda is already in New York, everything is ok with her, she will be in Newark until she finds a place to stay in New York!

Update: For those who don’t know, Fernanda is the girl from Minas Gerais who was chosen to go to NYU! The Federal University of Minas Gerais also integrates this program!

That’s it! =)
